Student Life
Welcome Class of 2011
Housing
There is no university housing available on either
the Piscataway/New Brunswick Campus or the Camden Campus. However,
there are more than adequate numbers of apartments, townhouses,
condominiums, houses and rooms for rent within a short distance
of all the Campuses. The Office of Student Affairs, in conjunction
with the First Year Orientation Committee, hosts two "Housing Days"
during the summer months. Incoming students are given the opportunity
to meet potential roommates and to discuss housing issues with upper-class
students. The Office of Student Affairs maintains a source listing
which contains updated housing
information. Similarly, the Office of the Associate Dean for
Academic and Student Affairs assists students in finding housing
either in Camden or the surrounding suburbs. Rapid transit is available
one block from the Camden Campus, placing New Jersey suburbs and
downtown Philadelphia within a few minutes of travel. On-call rooms
are provided for medical students at all of the clinical sites.
Dining Facilities
Students on the Piscataway Campus may dine at Woody's,
the medical school cafeteria. It is located in the Kessler Teaching
Building. Woody's serves hot and cold meals five days a week from
8:00 am to 2:00 pm. A limited menu is available from 3:00 PM-7:00
PM Monday through Thursday. Vending machines are also available.
Students on the New Brunswick Campus may dine at
the CABfare restaurant which is located on the third floor of the
Clinical Academic Building. This facility operates from 8:00 AM
to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. Vending machines are available
at both the Medical Education Building (first floor) and the Clinical
Academic Building (first floor).
Students on the Camden Campus may dine in the cafeteria
of Cooper Hospital University Medical Center. In addition to this
facility, there are vending areas both in the hospital and in the
Education and Research Building (third floor).
Athletic Facilities
Robert Wood Johnson Medical School has made arrangements
with Rutgers University for medical students to utilize the Rutgers
athletic facilities on the Busch, Livingston and College Avenue
Campuses in Piscataway and New Brunswick, and on the Camden Campus
in Camden. The Sonny Werblin Athletic Center on the Busch Campus
is a world class facility encompassing several swimming pools and
gyms, workout facility, squash, racquetball and beach volleyball.
Golf is also available on the Busch Campus. A modest fee payable
to Rutgers University is required for use of these facilities. There
is also a fitness center in the Clinical Academic Building in New
Brunswick. Special student discount rates apply.
Books and Medical Supplies
Robert Wood Johnson Medical School is served by
the Rutgers University Bookstore, one of the largest bookstores
in the northeast. It supplies medical texts, equipment, supplies,
review books, CD-ROMs, laboratory coats and instruments for physical
diagnosis. The Bookstore is located in New Brunswick. It offers
phone, fax and online ordering. Robert Wood Johnson Medical students
receive free standard UPS shipping. Similar services are available
for students on the Camden Campus through Matthews Medical Bookstore
and the bookstore of Rutgers University. UMDNJ
