Fourth year medical students have the opportunity to spend one month
in the orthopedic research laboratory with Dr. Michael Dunn or Dr. Charles
Gatt. Students are selected each year to participate in ongoing clinical
or laboratory research projects. Examples of previous studies include
mechanical strength testing of ligaments and tendons, collagen synthesis,
and pull-out strength of ACL grafts. Students are given a balance of both
guidance and autonomy. This opportunity allows students the chance to
learn more about orthopedic research skills and develop new ideas for
their future study opportunities. Orthopedic research experience is also
available for first and second year medical students. Interested students
are encouraged to contact the department for current projects.
