UMDNJ Physicians Named “Best Doctors” by New York Magazine
NEWARK-More than 100 physicians within the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey were selected among the prestigious list of New York Magazines “Best Doctors” for 2007, including 46 from UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
For its annual compilation of top physicians, New York Magazine employs the services of Castle Connolly Medical, Ltd., that publishes an annual guidebook, Top Doctors: New York Metro Area, which lists those whom Castle Connolly has determined to be the top 10 percent of the region’s physicians, more than 6,000 in all. For the past ten years, Castle Connolly has been providing New York Magazine with a condensed version of the list for the publications “Best Doctors” issue.
The firm conducts a peer-review survey, distributing 12,000 nomination forms to medical professionals in the region. The recipients included randomly selected board-certified doctors; all doctors listed in the previous edition of Castel Connolly’s annual guidebook; and, from every hospital in the area, the president or CEO, the vice-president of medical affairs and up to eight chiefs of service in departments from surgery to pediatrics. The entire “2007 Top Doctors” list is available on the magazine’s website at http://nymag.com/health/bestdoctors/2007/33166/.
UMDNJ is the nation’s largest free-standing public health sciences university with more than 5,700 students attending the state's three medical schools, its only dental school, a graduate school of biomedical sciences, a school of health related professions, a school of nursing and a school of public health on five campuses. Annually, there are more than two million patient visits at UMDNJ facilities and faculty practices at campuses in Newark, New Brunswick/Piscataway, Scotch Plains, Camden and Stratford. UMDNJ operates University Hospital, a Level I Trauma Center in Newark, and University Behavioral HealthCare, a statewide mental health and addiction services network.
