Anesthesiology Chair
I am pleased to inform you that Christine W. Hunter, MD, associate professor and acting chair, Department of Anesthesiology, has been appointed chair of the department. Over the months she served as acting chair, Dr. Hunter provided outstanding leadership for the department. I am pleased that as chair, Dr. Hunter will continue to provide patient care while fulfilling her academic and administrative responsibilities. more...

EPA Funds New Research Center Program at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson
Medical School Bioinformatics Center
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded $9 million to establish two cutting-edge environmental bioinformatics research centers at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Research Center for Environmental Bioinformatics and Computational Toxicology at the medical school will bring together a team of computational scientists with diverse backgrounds in bioinformatics, chemistry, modeling, and environmental studies from UMDNJ, Rutgers University, Princeton University, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Center for Toxicoinformatics. The center represents a major component of EPA's computational toxicology program, which is using computer models to study the relationship between environmental contaminants and their potential adverse effects. The grant awards for each center will be $4.5 million for five years.

The International Society on Hypertension in Blacks, Inc (ISHIB) a unique, professional medical society that established the first ever guidelines for treating hypertension in African Americans, elected David S. Kountz, MD, FACP, Associate Professor, Associate Dean and Medical Director, UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, as 2005-2006 ISHIB board of trustee. RWJMS Faculty are Honored for Achievements
Two faculty members at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School garnered national recognition for their contributions to their respective disciplines. Dr. Manny DiCicco-Bloom, pediatric neurologist and associate professor, received the first Science Service Award for Outstanding Dedication to the National Association for Autism Research. He studies the impact of environmental factors on the developing brain.
A documentary on Alzheimer's disease narrated by Dr. William Reichman, professor of psychiatry and neurology, was honored with the 2005 Bronze Telly Award. 'Reflections of Memories Lost: Understanding Alzheimer's Disease" debuted in March on ABC's Family Channel.
