UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Welcomes
Pediatric Neurosurgeon to Faculty
Tyagi

New Brunswick, NJ – Rachana Tyagi, MD, a renowned pediatric neurosurgeon who specializes in spine surgery, has joined the faculty at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School as assistant professor, department of surgery and director of the pediatric neurosurgery program.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome Dr. Tyagi as our specialist in pediatric neurosurgery,” said Peter S. Amenta, MD, PhD, interim dean of Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.  “The addition of Dr. Tyagi to our surgical team further advances our mission to provide all of our patients with specialized quality care right here in central New Jersey.”

Dr. Tyagi specializes in pediatric orthopaedic surgery treating spinal trauma, scoliosis, thoracic insufficiency (when the thorax is unable to support normal breathing and lung growth) and spondylolisthesis (when one of the spine’s vertebrae slips forward over the vertebra beneath it). In addition, she treats a broad scope of pediatric neurological conditions including brain and spinal cord tumors, epilepsy, Chiari malformations (structural defects in the cerebellum), craniofacial malformations, spasticity, spina bifida, tethered cord and hydrocephalus. As a faculty member at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, with privileges at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Dr. Tyagi has the resources to ensure patients benefit from a comprehensive treatment program from diagnosis to the completion of rehabilitation.

Dr. Tyagi, of West Windsor, NJ, received her medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor and completed her residency at Temple University in Philadelphia. She continued her postgraduate training in a spine surgery fellowship in the department of orthopaedics at Shriners Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, followed by a fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Ohio.

Appointments with Dr. Tyagi may be scheduled by calling 732-235-7757.
