Clinical ProgramsThe New Jersey Regional Hemophilia ProgramDirector: Claire Philipp, MD A statewide program for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of bleeding and clotting disorders, the Program has its main Comprehensive Treatment Center at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dedicated staff and clinical facilities along with access to an on-site Special Hemostasis Laboratory enables provision of comprehensive, multi-disciplinary, closely integrated adult and pediatric services. The program has been Federal and State grant funded since its inception in 1976. Thrombosis CenterDirector: Claire Philipp, MDThe Thrombosis Program was established in 1991 as a statewide tertiary care referral Center for the diagnosis and management of inherited and acquired hypercoagulable states. The program receives federal funding and is nationally recognized by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Women with Bleeding DisordersDirector: Shelonitda Rose, MDWBD was established in 1997 by the Division of Hematology in close collaboration with the Division of General Gynecology and the Women with Bleeding Disorders (WBD) Committee of the Hemophilia Association of New Jersey (HANJ). The program, integrated with the Hemophilia Treatment Center, is a combined adult and pediatric/adolescent program, with strong transitional and family evaluation components. WBD involves extensive education and outreach to providers, consumers, and the community. Pediatric, Hemostasis and Thrombosis ProgramDirector: Lisa Michaels, M.D.The Hemophilia, Thrombophilia and Women with Bleeding Disorder Program serve different patient population, however, the concurrent availability of adult and pediatric hematologists at one site has enabled the development of separate pediatric and adolescent transition programs. The Regional Comprehensive Sickle Cell CenterCo-Directors: Joseph Eid, MD and Richard Drachtman, MD (Pediatrics)Established in 1998, the Center is a statewide referral program for the diagnosis and management of Sickle Cell Disease and other hemoglobinopaths. The Center, staff and resources are comprehensive and include both a pediatric and adult components. A transition service provides appropriate care for young adults. The Center is recognized and funded by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services. Special Hemostasis LaboratoryDirector: Claire S. Philipp, M.D.Established in 1974, this on-site Laboratory, performs specialized coagulation testing for clinical diagnosis and management of patients with bleeding and clotting disorders. Now a state-wide referral laboratory for the performance of highly specialized diagnostic testing for bleeding and clotting disorders, the Laboratory is CLIA certified, accredited by the College of American Pathologists and licensed by the State of New Jersey. Transfusion Medicine ProgramDirector: Mercy Kuriyan, M.D.This is an academic and clinical program for apheresis, autologous and designated transfusion. Providing a wide range of services including autologous and allogeneic stem cell harvest, leukodepletion of blood products, therapeutic apheresis, and red cell exchange, the program is accredited by AABB and NJDHSS. Bone Marrow and Peripheral Stem Cell Transplantation ProgramDirector: Roger Strair, M.D.The Division participates in the Transplant Program of the Cancer Institute of New Jersey for autologous and allogeneic bone marrow and peripheral blood stem cell transplantation. |
