Ward Rotations

Floor teams are generally composed of a senior resident (PGY-2 or PGY-3), an intern, a fourth-year medical student (sub-intern) and a third-year medical student working closely with their assigned teaching attending in one-month blocks.  Interns care for approximately 8-12 patients at any given time.  In addition to weekday didactic conferences, floor team teaching rounds occur at the bedside daily.

At Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, there are seven floor teams.   Four of these teams comprise the medical teaching service.  Each medical teaching service team admits patients every fourth day.   A fifth floor team is the cardiology teaching service, which manages patients with acute cardiology-related complaints.  In addition to these floor teams, there are two dedicated oncology teaching service, a solid tumor team and a liquid malignancy team who, under the guidance of fellows and faculty, care for patients at the Cancer Institute of New Jersey.

At the University Medical Center at Princeton, there are five floor teams comprising a general medical service.  These teams manage and care for patients with a wide range of medical problems, including cardiac and oncology-related problems. Each team admits patients every fifth day.
