Research

The program understands the important role of research on the development of resident physicians particularly those preparing for subspecialty training and academic careers. Extending beyond ACGME requirements, a mandatory criterion for graduation is successful completion of basic or clinical research, review articles, and/or comprehensive case reports.

Our Residency Research Committee constantly seeks new opportunities through which residents can launch and successfully progress in their research.  One example of our commitment to developing clinician-researchers is the recently established Research with Distinction designation for trainees with special dedication to conducting original research.  The program also offers the ABIM Research Pathway for residents desiring further training in clinical or basic science research during their residency.

Residents are encouraged to publish their research findings in peer reviewed journals. Over the past five years residents have also presented at many internal medicine and subspecialty conferences including:

  • American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists
  • American College of Gastroenterology
  • American College of Physicians-New Jersey Chapter Scientific Session
  • American College of Physicians-National Meeting
  • American Federation for Medical Research
  • American Society of Clinical Oncologists
  • American Society of Hypertension
  • American Thoracic Society: National Meeting
  • Digestive Disease Society of America
  • Endocrine Society Conference
  • Infectious Disease Society of America
  • New Jersey Thoracic Society
  • Society of General Internal Medicine
